President Nicușor Dan received on Wednesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, the President of the European Council, António Costa, stating that they discussed the EU strategy in the Black Sea region, hybrid warfare, European solidarity, the SAFE mechanism, and the European Union enlargement process, which Romania supports, especially for the Republic of Moldova.
Romania is a key element for European security, stated the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, on Wednesday, during a joint statement with President Nicușor Dan.
The high official started his speech by congratulating Nicușor Dan on his victory in the presidential elections.
"I congratulate Romania for its commitment to Ukraine and for its commitment to European security," Costa said, according to Agerpres.
He argued that prosperity and security in the European Union are interconnected.
In turn, Nicușor Dan stated that the visit of the President of the European Council to Romania is a proof of European solidarity.
"We are going through a complicated period in Europe, and European solidarity is important during this time. Your visit is a proof of this European solidarity," said Nicușor Dan.
"We talked about the hybrid warfare that, unfortunately, we are facing these days. We discussed European solidarity and the SAFE mechanism, which should help Europe take its security into its own hands. We also talked about the future negotiations on the EU budget," Nicușor Dan added.
