Moscow criticizes Romania after the incident with Ukrainian planes

The spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, commented during the weekly press conference on Thursday on the incident in which four Ukrainian aircraft briefly entered Romanian airspace, criticizing the mild reaction of the authorities in Bucharest.

„We took note of the statement by the Romanian Ministry of Defense on July 21, in which it mentions the ‘unintentional entry, for a few minutes, into Romanian airspace’ by four Ukrainian military aircraft, which allegedly fled from Russian attacks on airport infrastructure in western Ukraine.

The reassuring and gentle messages addressed to Romanian citizens, such as 'everything is fine,' 'our people have arrived,' these aircraft do not pose a real threat to national security, people's lives, or state property, sharply contrast with the hysterical reaction of Bucharest to the highly publicized topic of 'Russian drone remnants' that, for unknown reasons, landed on Romanian territory," stated Maria Zakharova.

The subject was the third on the agenda of the comments she had to make in the press briefing.

"Regarding the confirmation by the Romanian Ministry of Defense that the country's airspace was used by Ukrainian air forces to disperse aircraft to avoid 'ground' losses, this fits perfectly into Bucharest's official logic, which consistently supports the regime in Kiev, effectively associating itself with its bloody essence, without considering its own national interests," accused the Russian Foreign Ministry representative.

"It is evident that encouraging the adventures of the gang led by (Volodymyr) Zelensky only serves to further exacerbate the catastrophic degradation of European security. Nevertheless, Romanian authorities seem unwilling to consider risks, to analyze national policy from the perspective of the country's and people's sovereign interests, ignoring the increasingly strong demand from society for a rational approach to Ukrainian issues," reproached Maria Zakharova.

"It is easier for them to count foreign planes in their sky and pretend that everything is in order. And that's even better than if they weren't there," sarcastically concluded the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

The radar surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defense detected, on the night from Sunday to Monday, airborne targets that followed different flight paths in Ukrainian airspace, north of the border with Romania, near the Maramureș - Suceava area.

According to the MoND, 12 Ukrainian airborne targets were detected in Ukrainian airspace, north of the Romanian border. Four of them unintentionally entered Romanian airspace for a few minutes, in the areas of Sighetu Marmației and Vicovu de Sus, without posing a real danger to national security, people's lives, or Romanian heritage.

Combat aircraft were scrambled for aerial reconnaissance missions.

Ukrainian authorities confirmed that they took measures to disperse military aircraft from airfields in western Ukraine due to massive Russian attacks on Ukrainian airport infrastructure.
