The AUR party invites its supporters to the Sunday rally that will mark „a month since dictatorship was established in Romania.”

George Simion’s people announce „the largest protest against the abusive decision to cancel the elections,” with the participation of 30,000 Romanians from all over the country and the diaspora.

The event starts with a rally at 2:00 PM at University Square. Then, an authorized march follows, which will take place along the route University Square – Victory Square – Basarab Passage – Cotroceni Palace – Opera Square – Victoriei Avenue – Victory Square.

"It's time to make ourselves heard, it's time to start the real fight for the freedom of our country. Come and join us on January 12!" writes on the AUR in Parliament Facebook page.

Călin Georgescu's Moscow Bosses Have Been Trying for a Month to Organize at Least a Political Brawl in the Streets

It feels like people are just waiting for a spark, as professor Remus Pricopie, the SNSPA rector, points out.

"Călin Georgescu's Moscow bosses have been trying for a month to organize a mineriad or at least a political brawl in the streets of Bucharest. Anything, as long as there is violence. Possibly with bloodshed, to create as much tension in society as possible.

George Simion also contributes to this effort, with those who are still around him after the failure in the presidential elections.

Fortunately, they have not succeeded, and I hope they do not achieve this goal (...) not even on Sunday, January 12, when Simion tries to bring AUR supporters from all over the country to Bucharest by bus.

I still hope that Romanian politicians have understood that Romania cannot be left in the hands of extremist Legionnaire-type individuals. I hope Romanians have understood that the so-called "patriots" are nothing but agents of the Kremlin, willing to sell their country and people for a handful of "yellow" coins/bitcoins, or naive individuals who are sold lies and illusions.

Meanwhile, Călin Georgescu, the "man on a white horse," like any courageous "patriot," has left the country in an attempt to dissociate himself from potential violence," wrote Friday on Facebook Remus Pricopie.

Gendarmerie Calls for Peaceful Protest

In this context, the Gendarmerie issued several recommendations on Saturday for people participating in a rally, asking them to respect the rules and requests of law enforcement, as well as to take care of children or pets if they accompany them to the event.

"Are you participating in a rally? Get informed correctly! The Gendarmerie has some essential recommendations for you to be safe. Respect the rules, be responsible, and contribute to a peaceful protest," is the message accompanying the nearly 2-minute video transmitted by the Romanian Gendarmerie.

The gendarmes ask those participating in protest actions to respect the rules and recommendations of law enforcement, to present documents for inspection if requested, and to take care of children if accompanying them.

Children should be kept close at all times because they can easily get lost in crowds.

Also, if there are people participating with pets, they should be kept close, and if they are large, they should wear a muzzle.

"Participating in a rally is a democratic right but also a responsibility," the gendarmes convey.

Recommendations also from AUR

Similarly, AUR has also issued a series of recommendations for participants in a press release on Saturday, emphasizing that they do not seek to provoke violent incidents.

"We specify that the demonstration belongs to the Romanian people, with AUR only providing a platform for those who want to express their dissatisfaction with the cancellation of the presidential elections and who request the resumption of the electoral process, starting with the second round."

The party has the following recommendations for participants:

  • Follow the instructions of the organizers, who will wear white armbands for easy identification.
  • Do not engage in acts of violence! Address law enforcement and protest organizers if you notice instigators or if you are a victim of an incident.
  • Do not engage in conflicts with law enforcement or journalists present at the rally!
  • Do not bring any other symbol or flag, apart from the tricolor!
  • To minimize public disturbance, do not bring vuvuzelas or similar materials!
