Hundreds of people gave the fascist salute during a demonstration in Rome (Video)

The Italian police will use video footage to identify individuals who raised their right arm in a fascist salute during a demonstration in Rome on Tuesday.

According to the police, about 1,300 people gathered to commemorate the so-called Acca Larentia crimes, dpa reports.

Two young neo-fascists were fatally shot by far-left militants on Acca Larentia street in Rome on January 7, 1978, while a third one died later.

Since then, annual commemorative gatherings have been organized in front of the former headquarters of the neofascist party Italian Social Movement - National Right (MSI), a party founded after the death of dictator Benito Mussolini.

Video footage from Tuesday's gathering shows individuals, mostly dressed in black, responding to the call For all fallen comrades and shouting Presente (present), while raising their right arm in a fascist salute. The salute was repeated three times.

The gesture known as the Roman salute in Italy is prohibited, but is often seen at neofascist gatherings.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Italian government's leader since October 2022, heads the far-right party Fratelli d'Italia, which is the successor of MSI.
