A bear was seen on Saturday morning in the town of Ciolpani near Bucharest.
So the authorities issued a RO-Alert warning.
"The presence of a bear has been reported in the town of Ciolpani. Avoid the area, stay indoors!" reads the message from the Bucharest Emergency Inspectorate for the population of Ciolpani and Snagov, in the Scroviștea forest area.
If anyone sees the bear, they should keep their distance, refrain from taking photos or feeding it.
The bear was a cub that did not attack anyone
Several intervention teams were sent to the scene.
"It is a bear cub, identified by the forest ranger, and as an additional measure, a unit of the Ilfov Gendarmerie remained in the area for surveillance. Local authorities have also been informed," announces the Romanian Gendarmerie.
The bear cub did not attack households or individuals.
This is not the first time a bear has been spotted so close to Bucharest. In the summer of 2022, another alert was issued, also in Ciolpani, for a bear located in the Scroviștea forest.
One specimen was filmed in 2023 less than 20 kilometers from Bucharest, on the edge of the forest in Sinești, in the Ialomița county.
In recent years, bears have descended into several towns in the hilly and lowland areas in search of food.
