Google presented the lists of the most popular trending searches by Romanians in 2025. These indicate the subjects and people that generated the most interest in searches in Romania, the most popular events in 2025 for Romanians, what interested them in terms of movies, series, and recipes, or what questions they asked.
The presidential elections in the spring had a major impact on Romanians’ searches in 2025. Nicușor Dan, the elected president, as well as his opponent in the presidential final, George Simion, and the voter turnout are in the top 10 searches by Romanians on Google in 2025.
The passing of some public figures was another trigger. The death of Ion Iliescu, the former Pope Francis, or the assassination of Charlie Kirk led to high interest in searches on Google in our country.
The top searches by Romanians in 2025 are complemented by moments such as the match between FSCB and PAOK Thessaloniki, the show „Insula iubirii,” or the launch of the new iPhone.
Labubu, a popular plush toy worldwide, sparked a trend in Romanians’ searches on Google in 2025. It was not the only „trendy” toy this year in Romania: kendama recorded a significant increase in searches, even though it did not make it into the top 10.

In the „Movies” category, Nosferatu is the most popular in searches on Google in 2025. The only Romanian film in this year’s top 10 is „Cravata galbenă,” ranking 3rd. In terms of series, „Squid Game” was the most popular in Romanians’ searches on Google.
Among the Christmas markets with the most significant search increases this year are those abroad – Vienna and Budapest, surpassing the most popular ones in Romania – Bucharest and Craiova.

Among the most popular searches on Google in 2025 are those related to traditional Easter dishes: lamb drob, roast lamb, and pasca.

The lists include „trending” searches, which recorded a monthly growth of over 10 times in 2025 compared to 2024. The reference period is January 1, 2025 – December 3, 2025.
The ranking in each list is based on search volume.
Most of the data comes from Google Trends, a public service that shows search volume on different geographical regions, time periods, and terms used. Additionally, Google uses internal tools for further complex analyses. Moreover, spam, browsing searches, and repetitive searches have been eliminated.
The lists were compiled based on traffic figures from addresses in Romania that conducted searches on google.com, on personal computers or mobile devices.
