The University of Bucharest is ranked first in the EU for promoting gender equality

The University of Bucharest ranks first among European Union universities in promoting gender equality.

Moreover, UB is ranked 3rd globally, after Walailak University (Thailand) and Bahcesehir University (Turkey), according to the 2025 edition of the University Impact Rankings, a ranking compiled by Times Higher Education.

A total of 1,559 universities from 119 countries/territories were evaluated based on their contributions to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5: gender equality.

These universities excel in eliminating forms of discrimination and violence against women, improving women's access to reproductive rights, and ensuring their effective participation in leadership structures and public life.

Through dedicated research, comprehensive policies, and inclusive practices, these institutions play essential roles in women's empowerment and promoting gender equality in global communities.

"These top universities promote environments where women can thrive, providing equitable access to education, leadership opportunities, and advocating for comprehensive social protection policies. Their efforts are crucial in promoting women's empowerment and making substantial progress towards gender parity in all areas of society," specifies Times Higher Education.

In the overall ranking, the University of Bucharest is placed 93rd and is the Romanian university with the most appearances in the top 50 rankings related to specific objectives.

The 2025 Impact Ranking includes 2,526 universities from 130 countries, and among them, 25 are from Romania.
