Prosecutor Nicolae Valerian Cuzi, from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Galati Court, has been indicted by the General Prosecutor’s Office and is in preventive arrest. He is accused of destroying key evidence in a criminal case and falsifying statements to close a case in which a priest admitted to raping a 15-year-old student.
According to investigators, the actions took place between July 16 and August 30, 2024.
Cuzi allegedly removed from the file the official notification to the priest that he was a suspect, as well as the statement in which he admitted to committing repeated rapes against the girl. Additionally, the prosecutor is said to have destroyed documents related to the crime reconstruction: the ordinance, the official notification, and the photographic panel.
Subsequently, prosecutors claim that Cuzi replaced the documents with falsified ones in which the suspect denied the rape. The purpose would have been to adopt a decision to close the case.
The prosecutor is now accused of aiding the perpetrator, tampering with and destroying evidence, and intellectual forgery, as announced on Friday by the General Prosecutor's Office, specifying that the case has been sent for trial at the Galati Court of Appeal.
The targeted priest is Aurelian-Emil Oprișan, the parish priest in Foltești and a religion teacher at the local secondary school in the same commune, as reported by News.ro.
