Rheinmetall has announced that it will produce armored carriers Lynx in Romania, at Automecanica Mediaș. The German company will expand its presence in our country, as well as its status as a producer and supplier for the Romanian armed forces.
The German technological group has established a comprehensive local production network in Romania, which includes both its own companies in the country and new partnerships with Romanian companies. Providing advanced turnkey solutions for the production of infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition and gunpowder, as well as cutting-edge training services, will strengthen the Romanian defense industry in the long term.
The network includes Rheinmetall Automecanica, other local activities of Rheinmetall, as well as a new center of excellence for training and continuous education, Rheinmetall stated in a press release.
The German group will collaborate with several Romanian companies, including Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Interactive Software SRL, and MarcTel-SIT, to promote local procurement and assembly processes and encourage the integration of Romanian expertise into the production chain.
The collaboration will focus on the local production of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle at Rheinmetall Automecanica, with a robust supply chain and reduced dependence on external suppliers.
Additionally, Rheinmetall Munitions Romania will manufacture medium-caliber ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles and air defense, while the Explosive Powder Factory Victoria will produce propellants, with Rheinmetall providing expertise and technology for a propylene factory.
„Investments by Rheinmetall in local production will make a significant contribution to the Romanian economy by creating hundreds of jobs in various sectors, including production, engineering, and technical services. Cooperation with Romanian companies will also stimulate local supply chains, create additional business opportunities, and promote industrial growth,” the German company stated.
Through this strategic initiative, Rheinmetall Automecanica enhances Romania’s defense capabilities and lays the foundation for a sustainable and independent defense industry, emphasized the German manufacturer.
