At least two people have died, and up to 100 people were injured on Monday when a passenger train carrying 800 passengers collided with a Kamaz truck, causing eight carriages to derail, Reuters reports.

Some of the carriages were found contorted and damaged near the railway tracks, as reported by the Russian press.

The train was traveling from Kazan in Tatarstan to Adler on the Black Sea coast when it derailed in the south of the Volgograd region, near Kotelnikovo station, approximately 1,200 km south of Moscow, the Ministry of Emergency Situations stated.

„Paramedics are on the scene,” the ministry announced, adding that 324 emergency service workers are involved in the operation. Emergency helicopters have also been requested.

The Telegram channel Mash reported that at least two people were killed, but the death toll could rise. The Interfax news agency stated that up to 100 people could be injured.

An unverified video circulating on Telegram shows at least four derailed carriages, some twisted, with people coming out of one overturned beside the tracks.

Mash published a video showing the damaged remains of a Kamaz truck cabin near the derailed train.

TASS cited unidentified sources from Russian law enforcement who stated that 20 people were injured following the collision between the train and a Kamaz truck.
