The Romanian Government has adopted an emergency ordinance extending the financial aid program for young mothers in disadvantaged situations.
The Government spokesperson, Mihai Constantin, announced that the Executive has adopted, on Thursday, an emergency ordinance regarding the assistance provided to young mothers in disadvantaged situations, specifically those with low incomes, in critical life situations, or underage mothers.
They will receive a financial aid of 2,000 lei (400 euros), granted once for each newborn.
With this money, mothers will be able to buy specific newborn layette products.
"This is a form of support that disadvantaged mothers benefited from last year. We also have a figure: 13,548 layettes were supported by the state through this mechanism.
This program is extended through the emergency ordinance adopted today for 2024 - 2027. The total budget for this program is 120 million euros, funds made available to Romania through the Operational Program for assisting disadvantaged persons," stated the Government spokesperson.
The same ordinance was amended in the government meeting to include a long-awaited social measure in the medical field, namely exemption from paying social contributions for sick leave allowances in the case of pregnant women, mothers with sick children, oncology patients, and emergency cases.
