Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban spoke on Friday about the presidential elections in Romania, as well as the influence of social media networks such as TikTok in the electoral process, during an interview on a Hungarian radio station.
„Something very interesting happened in the presidential elections, the Constitutional Court is already dealing with this case. (…)
The phenomenon I am talking about is the encounter of modern technology with voters. What electronic tools, TikTok, and who knows what other platforms can or cannot be used, what regulations exist, how they influence people...
If they influence them, then it could be a pretext to annul their decision," Orban said.
The Prime Minister added that the same issue might arise in Hungary at some point.
He sees the elections in Romania as an "experiment" that will help them avoid similar incidents if they occur in his country.
"We are grateful to the Romanians because, practically, as in a laboratory, we see it as an experiment, and we, drawing conclusions, will see if we have tasks to avoid similar problems here, in Hungary," Orban added.
