The leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, officially announced his candidacy for the presidential elections on Tuesday.
He stated that he made this decision after consulting with Romanians, his family, and colleagues from the party.
„I will ask my colleagues, at the PSD Congress on August 24, to grant me, through their vote, the honor of fighting for all those who, in the last 20 years, have not felt represented, have not felt heard, and have lost hope in a President for ALL, who will fight for the rights of the entire society!
I want to assure all Romanians of a future where there is hope for a better life, in prosperity and peace.
I believe that the great expectation of Romanians is that the wealth generated through Romania's economic development in recent years reaches as many of those who have worked for this to happen!
I BELIEVE that the mandate of the future President of the country must be about a fair Romania, well-organized, which takes care of all Romanians who work honestly!
I AM READY to fight alongside all those who believe and feel the same way, so that Romanians can live in a country they can be proud of every moment!
"May God help us!", says Marcel Ciolacu in a video speech posted on Facebook.
The announcement comes four days before the PSD Congress where the new party president will be elected and the presidential candidate will be validated.
In the morning, Marcel Ciolacu informed PSD members through an internal audio message that he had decided to run for the presidency of Romania, political sources told spotmedia.ro.
"Hello! I am Marcel Ciolacu. After consulting with many of you, I have decided to run for the Presidency of Romania. I wanted you to hear this from me, and not from the television, because we will discuss this decision on Saturday at the PSD Congress.
We have the best team for Romania, as we have shown in all elections over the past 4 years. I am confident that together we will regain the Presidency after 20 years.
On Saturday, at the congress, I will present my Plan for Romania. I sincerely hope you will grant me the honor of fighting on your behalf and on behalf of Romanians to win the presidential elections. Romania needs stability and balance. I count on all of you and look forward to your support in our campaign. Thank you!", is the audio message sent to PSD members before the Congress.
