Keir Starmer has officially become the new Prime Minister of Great Britain. He met with King Charles III on Friday, then went to Downing Street where he delivered his first speech as Prime Minister.

Previously, Conservative leader Rishi Sunak resigned following the Conservative Party’s worst election result.

Following the meeting, a Royal Household spokesperson said that the King asked Keir Starmer to form a new administration, and he accepted, according to Sky News.

Keir Starmer then delivered his first speech as Prime Minister in front of 10 Downing Street in London.

**Key statements from Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s speech:**
– „Our country has now decisively voted for change and a return of politics in the public service.
– When the gap between the sacrifices made by people and the services they receive from politicians becomes so large, it leads to exhaustion in the heart of a nation, to a dissipation of hope, spirit, belief in a better future. This wound, this lack of trust can only be healed through actions, not words.
– I know this, but we can start today with a simple acknowledgment that public service is a privilege and that the government should treat every person in the country with respect.
– Whether you voted for Labour or not – in fact, especially if you did not vote – I tell you directly, my government will serve you.
– Politics can be a force for good. We will show that. We have changed the Labour Party, we have put it back in operation – that’s how we will govern. First the country, then the party.
– It is clear to everyone that our country needs a greater reset, a rediscovery of who we are.
– Changing a country is not like flipping a switch. The world is more volatile. It will take some time.
– If I were to ask you now if you think Britain will be better for your children, I know that too many of you will say no – and so my government will fight until you believe again.
– From now on, you have a government that is not burdened by doctrines, but guided only by the determination to serve your interests. You have given us a clear mandate and we will use it to bring about change.
– We will rebuild brick by brick the infrastructure of opportunities, world-class schools and colleges, affordable housing which, I know, are the ingredients of hope for working people.
– With respect and humility, I invite you all to join this service government in the mission of national renewal. Our work is urgent and we start it today.”

At the end of the speech, Keir Starmer greeted the press alongside his wife, Victoria.
