American President Donald Trump commented on Wednesday on the grandiose military parade organized in Beijing, where Xi Jinping was accompanied by Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.
The White House leader described the event as „very, very impressive” and said he „understood the reason” for its organization. Trump added that the United States did not receive the deserved recognition for the support provided to China during World War II, criticizing the fact that the U.S. was not mentioned in President Xi’s speech, as reported by The Guardian.
Donald Trump was asked about the Chinese military parade when he received Polish President Karol Nawrocki in the Oval Office and spoke with journalists.
He said it was a "beautiful ceremony" and "very, very impressive."
Chinese leader Xi Jinping, flanked by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, presided over a grand military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, attended by a number of leaders considered autocrats, in an apparent move of defiance against the West and especially against Donald Trump.
China Shows off its Equipment
The massive show of force in Beijing, officially organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Japan's defeat and the end of World War II, showcased China's growing military power in front of 50,000 guests and spectators. The highly choreographed parade took place in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and was an opportunity to present a new long-range hypersonic missile, underwater drones, and even robotic wolves.
"I found it very, very impressive," confessed Trump. "But I understood the reason why they did this," he added. "They hoped that I would watch the event, and I did," said Trump.
"My relationship with everyone is very good," assured the White House chief. "We will find out how good it is in the next week or two," enigmatically added Donald Trump, probably referring to possible sanctions.
Prior to this, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the three dictators who were at the center of the event in Beijing are conspiring against the U.S. through this show of solidarity.
Putin, Xi, and Kim Together
The parade marked the first time Xi, Putin, and Kim stood together at an event of this kind. Host Xi stepped onto the red carpet with Putin and Kim by his side. It was the largest military parade ever organized in China, with the participation of 24 leaders, mostly from outside the West.
As the parade was unfolding, Trump posted a sarcastic remark on his social platform Truth Social. "May President Xi and the wonderful Chinese people have a wonderful and unforgettable holiday," wrote the U.S. President. "Please convey my warm regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America," he added.
Asked on Wednesday if he would have attended the parade if invited, Trump replied, "It wouldn't have been my place (there)."
Trump's Frustration
The White House chief, however, did not refrain from making a comment reflecting his frustration.
"I don't think America, the United States, has been recognized for the help provided to China in achieving freedom," said Trump, referring to Japan's surrender in World War II, following the U.S. dropping nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "I was very surprised. I watched the speech last night. President Xi is a friend of mine, but I believe the U.S. should have been mentioned last night during the speech, as we have helped China a lot," Trump said in the Oval Office.
In his post on Truth Social a few hours ago, Trump had said that the "big" question is whether Xi will mention what the U.S. President called the "massive support and blood" that the U.S. provided to China to help the Asian country secure its freedom.
"Many Americans died in China's fight for victory and glory," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "I hope they are honored and rightly remembered for their courage and sacrifice!" added the American President.
