The New York Times (NYT) claims that the Pentagon will inform Elon Musk on Friday about its plans in case of a conflict with China.
Musk, currently the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, is set to receive top-level strategic information, according to sources cited by the publication.
If these pieces of information are confirmed, his access to the military's operational plans raises questions about conflicts of interest, given his extensive business ties, including in China.
Musk, access to military secrets?
The Pentagon is set to inform mogul Elon Musk on Friday, one of the closest advisers to US President Donald Trump, about the military plans of the USA in case of a conflict with China, according to information published on Thursday in The New York Times (NYT), reported EFE on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon confirmed Musk's visit but did not mention the topic of the discussions.
Elon Musk's access to secret information would significantly expand his already influential role as an adviser to the American president and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an entity that has pushed for the elimination of certain federal agencies and the dismissal of thousands of public officials.
The Pentagon's war plans, known in military jargon as O-plans (operational plans), are among the best-kept secrets of the US military. Their disclosure could allow an enemy country to bolster its defense and address its vulnerabilities, thus reducing the effectiveness of the USA's strategy.
NYT cites two American officials who confirmed the meeting that Musk will have on Friday at the Pentagon to access the war plans against China.
Trump reacts: "Lies!"
President Trump categorically denied the information published in NYT, stating that the Pentagon meeting will not include discussions about China.
In a post on Truth Social, the American leader criticized the publication, calling the article "completely false" and accusing the press of "misinformation."
"The fake news media are back at it again, this time the failing New York Times. They incorrectly said that Elon Musk will go to the Pentagon tomorrow to receive information about a possible 'war with China.' How ridiculous!
China will not even be mentioned or discussed. It's a shame that discredited media can invent such lies. In any case, the story is completely false!" Trump wrote in his post.
Following the publication of the news, Department of Defense spokesperson Sean Parnell stated that the businessman was invited by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for a simple visit.
