Armed attack in Kentucky: Several people injured, suspect killed

A suspect shot and injured a police officer on Sunday in Fayette County, Kentucky, then fled to a church where several people were injured in a second exchange of gunfire.

The attacker was killed, and the gunfire ceased, according to AP.

The incident began at 11:36 a.m. when the officer was shot. The suspect later arrived at the Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, where further shots were fired.

The police officer and other individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, but the severity of the injuries is not yet known.

The Kentucky State Police have not provided additional details about the suspect's death.

Governor Andy Beshear confirmed that the church shootings resulted in multiple injuries and requested prayers for all those affected. He expressed gratitude for the quick response of the Lexington Police Department and the Kentucky State Police.
