Law enforcement forces in Georgia clashed on Saturday with anti-government protesters attempting to storm the presidential palace in the capital, Tbilisi.
Police used water cannons and pepper spray to disperse the protesters, as reported by BBC.
Waving Georgian and EU flags, tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday in the center of Tbilisi.
One of the organizers, opera singer Paata Burchuladze, read a statement urging employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to obey the will of the people and immediately arrest six personalities from the Georgian Dream party.
The demonstrators then marched towards the presidential palace and attempted to enter the premises, with police responding with pepper spray.
The protest took place on the same day as the local elections, largely boycotted by the opposition following government repression. One of the organizers had previously called for the arrest of the leaders of the Georgian Dream party.
The demonstration follows the repression of activists, independent media, and political opposition in recent months, with most pro-Western opposition leaders now behind bars.
The Caucasus country has been in crisis since the ruling Georgian Dream party claimed victory in last year's parliamentary elections, which the pro-European Union opposition alleges were fraudulent. Since then, the government has suspended negotiations on EU accession.
