British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom, France, and Ukraine have decided to work on a ceasefire plan for the Ukrainian conflict. Subsequently, the plan will be presented to Donald Trump.
After discussions with the American, Ukrainian, and French presidents, „we agreed that the United Kingdom, along with France and perhaps one or two other countries, will collaborate with Ukraine on a plan to cease hostilities, and then we will discuss this plan with the USA. I think we have taken a step in the right direction,” said Keir Starmer on Sunday in an interview with BBC.
The statement was made just a few hours before the start of a summit where about 15 European leaders are expected to participate in London.
Among the invited leaders are those from France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania. The summit will also include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa.
According to the British Prime Minister's office, the summit aims to strengthen European support for Ukraine, with the goal of ensuring a sustainable peace agreement and Ukraine's sovereignty.
The event is organized following Starmer's meeting with American President Donald Trump at the White House, as well as after the incident on Friday in the Oval Office, which led to Volodymyr Zelenski leaving the discussions regarding the signing of the Ukraine-US agreement.
