Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a direct warning from Donald Trump, who conveyed that Israel risks losing the support of the United States if it resumes the offensive against Iran.
The message comes at an extremely delicate moment, as Israel and Iran are trying to maintain the ceasefire reached in April, after yesterday they had the most serious confrontation in recent months.
Meanwhile, violence continues in Lebanon, where Israeli attacks on the country's south killed at least 14 people on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health in Beirut.
Trump: "Bibi, be careful, otherwise you'll be on your own"
In an interview with Axios, Donald Trump revealed that he personally warned the Israeli leader unequivocally. "I told him: 'Bibi, be careful, otherwise you'll be on your own very soon'," recounted the American president.
In the past few days, Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Israeli government and has repeatedly called for an end to the attacks that risk undermining the ongoing indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
The White House leader called Netanyahu as early as Sunday evening and asked him to avoid any strikes, but Israel launched attacks on Monday on air defense systems and petrochemical installations in Iran. Tehran responded by hitting similar infrastructure and two Israeli air bases.
Netanyahu: Israel will defend its interests
The Israeli Prime Minister rejected the idea of a rift with the Trump administration and stated that Israel is exercising its right to self-defense. "Israel has the full right to self-defense and exercises it when necessary," Netanyahu said in a televised statement quoted by Al Jazeera.
The Israeli leader also warned that any new Iranian attack will receive "a strong response."
At the same time, Israel's ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, sought to downplay tensions between the two leaders, saying that "sometimes lovers also argue."
14 dead in southern Lebanon
Despite calls for calm, confrontations continue in the region. The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Israeli attacks on the country's south on Monday resulted in the death of at least 14 people.
The most severe attack took place in the city of Tyre, where five people were killed and eight others injured near a Red Cross center. Among the injured are four paramedics.
Hezbollah, supported by Iran, announced that it had attacked Israeli troops on Lebanese territory, but did not claim strikes on Israeli territory.
Iran resumes flights and says negotiations continue
In Iran, authorities announced the resumption of operations at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran after temporarily suspending flights due to Israeli attacks.
Iranian media, cited by AFP, reported that the airport's activity has returned to normal.
Meanwhile, diplomatic contacts continue. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran remains at the negotiating table. Iran's ambassador to the UN said that indirect discussions with the US are ongoing through Pakistan, and both sides expressed hope that the negotiations will lead to an agreement in the near future.
