Road traffic was completely blocked on Sunday afternoon on the A3 Highway, heading towards Bucharest, at kilometer 48, near the town of Râfov, in Prahova County, following a chain accident involving seven cars. One person was injured and required medical care.
Traffic diverted to DN1
According to the police, following the collision, traffic was completely stopped on the highway, and traffic was redirected from A3 and A7 to DN1, putting additional pressure on one of the most traveled routes in the country. Around 5:00 PM, traffic resumed on the emergency lane.
The accident occurred at a time when thousands of tourists were returning from the mountain resorts after the May 1st mini-holiday, exacerbating traffic jams.
Traffic was already heavy on DN1, especially on the downhill lane towards Bucharest. Traffic police announced on Sunday afternoon high traffic volumes in the Azuga and Bușteni resort areas, starting from the border with Brașov County, as well as in the town of Comarnic.
Additionally, there was congestion on the Western Ring Road of Ploiești, at the intersection with DJ 129G (Strejnicu). Police units were deployed in the field to direct traffic and prevent further incidents.
Other incidents in the country: traffic stopped in Dâmbovița and slowed in Brăila
Traffic issues were reported on Sunday in other areas of the country as well. On DN71 Târgoviște – Bâldana, near the town of Mircea Vodă (Dâmbovița County), traffic was temporarily halted after an accident involving two cars, resulting in four injured persons.
In Brăila County, on DN22B, between Brăila and Galați, traffic was slow due to a collision between two vehicles. There were no injuries reported.
Increased traffic in Bucharest: restrictions on Bd. Iuliu Maniu
Traffic is also increasing in Bucharest, especially on the city's entry arteries. The Capital Police warns that on Boulevard Iuliu Maniu, between Drumul Osiei and Vijeliei Street, traffic is restricted to a single lane due to water and sewage network works.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area, use alternative routes such as A0 Highway or DNCB, and plan their trips in advance.
Police recommend drivers to follow the instructions of officers on the ground, maintain a safe distance, and avoid risky maneuvers, given the intense and unpredictable traffic conditions.
