The spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, issued a warning message to Romanian and Moldovan volunteers in the „Getica” combat group, who are fighting alongside the Ukrainian army. The Romanian fighters quickly reacted with a very harsh message.
In a message distributed on the Facebook page of the Russian Embassy, Maria Zakharova (photo) claims that the „Getica” group is involved in drone attacks against Russian soldiers.
"There is no doubt that those involved in these crimes will sooner or later be held accountable for their actions," the official message states.
Zakharova also states that "our law enforcement authorities are monitoring the war crimes committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and foreign mercenaries."
Getica group's reaction: "You are pathetic"
The response from the Romanian volunteers was extremely harsh. "The Russian Embassy in Bucharest today directly, even shamelessly, threatens Getica with reprisals because we posted a clip of perfectly legitimate FPV strikes," as stated in the message published by Romanian Battlegroup "Getica".
They further add: "Eliminating Russian occupiers in military uniform, armed, illegally present on the legitimate territory of another sovereign state, is NOT a war crime."
The volunteers assert that they are not afraid of Moscow's threats. "I don't think there's a single boy from Getica who hasn't accepted the risk of death, defeat, or reprisals after the war," they convey, ending with a message to the Russian services: "You are pathetic."
Attack on the "fifth column"
In the post, members of "Getica" accuse the existence of a network of Russia's supporters in Romania. "Romania is teeming with agents serving Russia... It's just a harsh reality," they state, mentioning the supportive comments that appeared on the Russian embassy's post.
The message concludes with a patriotic appeal: "Long live united Romania! Glory to heroes everywhere! Glory to Ukraine!" and with a postscript addressed to Romanians: "You should not be afraid of Russia anymore, you should feel sorry for them."
