Orban calls Zelensky's victory plan "more than terrifying"

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban argues that the victory plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is „more than terrifying.”

Zelensky presented the victory plan in five points to the European Council in Brussels on Thursday, a day after publicly unveiling the plan during a special session of the Ukrainian parliament.

"What (Zelensky) emphasized yesterday in the Ukrainian parliament is more than terrifying," Orban wrote on Facebook ahead of the EU summit, cited by Kyiv Independent.

Orban called on the EU to change its strategy regarding the war in Ukraine and reiterated calls for "ceasefire and peace talks."

Under Orban's leadership, Hungary has repeatedly blocked aid to Kiev and pushed for negotiations with Moscow.

Since taking over the presidency of the European Commission in July, Orban has aggressively lobbied to be a negotiator between Ukraine and Russia.

Now, Orban has rejected Zelensky's victory plan, which calls for more long-range weapons and permission to use them against Russian targets, as "dangerous."

The proposal consists of five points: an invitation to join NATO, a defense aspect, non-nuclear deterrence of Russian aggression, economic growth and cooperation, and post-war security architecture.

It also involves three additional classified articles that have been shared with international partners.

The EU must "move to a peace strategy instead of a war strategy," Orban said in his post, which also insisted that Ukraine is "losing" the war against Russia. "Today, I will urge the German chancellor and the French president to start negotiations with Russia on behalf of the entire European Union as soon as possible so that we can find a way out of this situation."
