Over 200 searches are taking place on Tuesday across the country as part of the „Jupiter 5” operation, one of the most extensive coordinated actions carried out this year by prosecutors and police. Dozens of cases involving economic crimes, corruption, smuggling, arms trafficking, money laundering, tax evasion, and forestry crime are targeted.
According to the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police, under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the IGPR, 51 simultaneous operations are being conducted nationwide.
Within these operations, 207 search warrants and 77 bring-in warrants are being executed. Investigators estimate a total damage of over 23.5 million lei in the ongoing cases.
Cases ranging from corruption and tax evasion to arms trafficking
Investigations target a wide range of offenses, from corruption, fraud, embezzlement, and tax evasion to smuggling, usury, extortion, money laundering, and counterfeiting.
Also under scrutiny are offenses related to the regime of weapons and ammunition, gambling, illegal logging, tree theft, and poaching.
Documents, money, and goods derived from crimes are sought
During searches, prosecutors and police aim to seize documents, computer systems, and data storage media that may contain relevant evidence for investigations.
At the same time, assets suspected of originating from criminal activities or being illegally held are targeted.
Investigators announce that, alongside the searches, preventive measures and asset freezing measures will be taken on movable and immovable property, bank accounts, and other assets to recover damages and potentially confiscate the proceeds of crime.
What Operation Jupiter aims for
According to the IGPR, Operation „Jupiter” aims to combat crime through coordinated actions between the Public Ministry and the Romanian Police, focusing on dismantling criminal groups, holding involved individuals accountable, and recovering damages.
The institution asserts that the simultaneous interventions carried out nationwide aim to enhance public safety and strengthen confidence in law enforcement.
