One of the most active volcanoes in the world has erupted again: Lava jets reached a height of 80 meters (Video)

The Kilauea volcano, located in the American archipelago of Hawaii, erupted on Monday, as reported by the American Geophysical Institute (USGS) cited by AFP.

Images released by authorities showed the appearance of fissures in the volcano’s crater, from which lava jets emerged.

The eruption began around 02:20 local time (12:20 GMT), the institute stated.

"At 04:30, lava jets reaching 80 meters high were observed," added USGS.

The sulfur dioxide released by the volcano "will react in the atmosphere and create a visible haze called vog (volcanic smog)," USGS indicated.

This volcanic haze can affect people, animals, and crops.

According to the institute, the eruption stabilized around 06:30 without threatening the infrastructure.

Kilauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983, with the most recent episode occurring in September. It is one of the six active volcanoes in Hawaii, alongside Mauna Loa, the largest in the world. Its eruptions can last for several days or even a year.

Smaller than Mauna Loa, Kilauea is nevertheless more active and is a very popular spot among tourists for its spectacular lava eruptions.
