The prostate cancer of former American President Joe Biden has spread to other parts of the body and is causing him pain, even as he continues to speak out on issues of public interest.
„The cancer has spread, it has metastasized to the bones and beyond,” Hunter Biden said on the BBC’s „Newsnight” show, according to a video clip posted online on Friday. „It’s very painful and very debilitating in many ways,” added the son of the former president, Hunter, as reported by The Associated Press.
In the interview aired late Friday night, Hunter Biden became emotional when talking about his father's condition, describing it as very sad to see. He admitted that the diagnosis has been hard for the family to bear.
"It's really sad to see this," Hunter Biden said. "The only thing I would say about my father, about his health at this moment, is that I wish he would complain more, because he's not doing well," he added.
Former president keeps busy
However, Hunter reassured that his father remains "front and center," speaking publicly about issues that are important to him.
"He's still keeping busy," he said. "He believes so much in this country," added Hunter Biden.
A spokesperson for the 83-year-old former Democratic head of state declined to comment on the statements made by Biden's son in the interview, as reported by Reuters.
Biden diagnosed with "aggressive" form of prostate cancer
In May 2025, Joe Biden revealed, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer, stating at the time that the disease had spread to his bones. A spokesperson for Joe Biden stated in October that he is undergoing radiation therapy and hormonal treatment.
Joe Biden was the oldest person to win the American presidency at the time of his election in 2020. His physical health and cognitive abilities received special attention throughout his presidential term, from 2021 to 2025. He and his White House advisors faced intense criticism for allegedly concealing the severity of his issues, especially after he was forced to abandon his reelection bid following a disastrous debate with his future successor, Donald Trump.
In June, Joe Biden attended the opening of Barack Obama's presidential library in Chicago, where he served as vice president from 2009 to 2017.
The publication of Joe Biden's presidential memoirs, a book titled "Promise Me, America," is scheduled for November 17, after the congressional elections.
