A broken window during the flight caused panic on board a Ryanair aircraft flying from the Greek city of Thessaloniki to Memmingen, Germany, on Friday.
Following the incident, the aircraft returned to the departure airport shortly after takeoff, as reported by the DPA news agency.
A passenger stated that a loud bang was heard during the flight, after which a window of a porthole shattered.
The passenger closest to the window was injured. "His head and shoulders were sticking out through the shattered window," another eyewitness told the Greek TV channel ERT. Other passengers managed to pull him back inside.
Video recordings posted on social media show emergency oxygen masks fallen in the cabin, and eyewitnesses reported that passengers were screaming in fear.
The pilot diverted the flight to Germany and turned the aircraft back, landing at Thessaloniki airport. The return flight after the incident lasted approximately 20 minutes.
The injured passenger, originally from Serbia, was taken to a hospital in Thessaloniki by emergency services, according to ERT.
Neither Ryanair nor the competent authorities immediately issued an official statement regarding this incident.
According to ERT, an investigation has been launched in this case.
