Heavy rainfall has hit the northeast of the United States, causing flooding in certain areas of New Jersey and in the northern suburbs of New York. The intense rains have disrupted traffic and flooded certain parts of the underground transportation system in the American metropolis.
In Central Park area of New York City, the amount of precipitation was 66 liters per square meter, surpassing the previous record from July 14, 1908, as reported by New York Times.

Rail services between Manhattan and Bronx have been suspended, and road traffic has been disrupted.
The severe weather prompted authorities to declare a state of emergency in New Jersey and issue flash flood warnings from Virginia to Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service announced that heavy rains will continue to fall on the east coast on Tuesday, but the sky above New York State will clear up, as reported by the American daily.
„Floods can be deadly and often strike without any warning. Streets, basements, and underground spaces can fill with water in a matter of minutes. If you live in a basement apartment or a low-lying area, be prepared to move to higher ground,” recommended the emergency management authority in New York.
"Keep your emergency bag near the door and clear the exit routes. Avoid flooded areas. Never walk or drive into water. Turn back to avoid drowning," the post on X continues.
On Tuesday morning, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that there are no longer closures of bus, ferry, and subway services due to the weather.
Since July 4, the national day of the United States, central Texas was devastated by torrential rains, resulting in at least 130 deaths and over 150 missing, and the response of local and federal authorities has been harshly criticized.
