Interim Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, announces that he has ordered the removal of the commander of the military unit in Murfatlar, following an inspection that revealed several serious violations. According to him, the officer reimbursed personal expenses from the unit’s budget and used the soldiers for his own interests.
Miruță stated, on Friday, in a press conference, that the checks were initiated after receiving complaints, and the reported irregularities were confirmed.
Would have reimbursed clothes and used subordinates in household chores
According to the minister, the commander would have reimbursed through the unit's accounting purchases made for himself and his family, including sneakers, tracksuits, and t-shirts.
At the same time, Miruță claims, the soldiers were made to paint his apartment, work in his household, and prepare and serve meals at his home for private events.
The minister stated that the officer also collected rent money, even though he did not live on rent, and demanded and received large quantities of food products from subordinates.
During the inspection, inspectors found a pig carcass, approximately 100 liters of bottled wine, several kilograms of mullet and other fish, but also a shortage of 1,700 liters of diesel, according to Miruță's statements.
The commander has been removed from office
Following the inspection, the interim Minister of Defense decided to remove the commander from the leadership of the unit and appoint another officer.
Furthermore, the competent authorities have been notified, and an administrative investigation targets those who accepted the registration of personal expenses in the unit's accounting.
And a military doctor is targeted in another case
Radu Miruță also presented a second case discovered during the inspections. According to him, a doctor employed in the Ministry of Defense would have used false certificates issued by ministry structures to hold, by delegation, positions for which he did not have legal rights.
The minister specified that in this case, the Military Prosecutor's Office was notified, and the delegation in question was revoked.
