A 24-year-old Romanian gendarme shot himself in the head with his service weapon. He was found at home after his colleague notified the Inspectorate that he did not show up for duty, even though the gendarme had taken the weapon.
The 24-year-old went to retrieve his service weapon on Monday morning and was supposed to arrive at his post at the National Archives of Timiș.
"On August 12, 2024, around 07:40, the intervention team of the Timiș County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, noticing that a colleague did not report for duty, went to the non-commissioned officer's address, where the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
A medical team with a doctor arrived on the scene to provide first aid measures, along with an investigation team, and the Military Prosecutor's Office in Timișoara was notified," stated the Timiș Gendarmerie Inspectorate.
Paramedics transported the man to the hospital, but the gendarme's condition was currently critical and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In December 2022, the young man was tested and deemed fit for duty.
He has been employed at the Timiș Gendarmerie Inspectorate since March 2022 and was renting a place in Timiș. His family is from Gorj County.
A few days ago, the chief of the police station in Roșiile, Vâlcea County, shot himself in the head with his service weapon and died. He was 28 years old and was declared psychologically fit in December 2021.
You probably remember the case of Florin Zalomir two years ago, a world champion in fencing in 2009 and an Olympic silver medalist in London in 2012, who also became a gendarme and committed suicide, being found shot in the head at his home in Otopeni.
